We are proud to support the Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) of New York Foundling!
CAPP teaches elementary age children across NYC how to protect themselves from physical and sexual abuse. Their workshops take place in schools around the city, and provide real life examples that are easily understood to the children. Since 1986, they have educated more than 560,000 children. CAPP is on track to educate 20,000 in the 2016-17 school year. Out of those workshops, approximately 150 cases of abuse have been referred to the New York State Central Registry each year.
CAPP also provides five Professional Training sessions for guidance counselors and social workers. In these sessions, participants learn how to spot signs of abuse in their students, and the proper procedure in such instances.
Finally, CAPP administers Positive Parenting workshops for parents in coordination with the Vincent J. Fontana Center for Child Protection. This past year CAPP held 9 of these workshops; their goal for the upcoming year is 13.
