Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Prison Re-Entry

“People are judgmental,” Chatman confesses, “people that don’t know. I don’t want anybody to look at me as the ‘ex-con.’ I want them to look at me as the person I am now. I’m a supervisor, I’m a good employee, I’m an employer, I even hire and I fire, so I want them to look at me as that.”

With the help of New York Cares‘ Career for the Formerly Incarcerated program, many more people like Bilal can have opportunities to re-enter the current workforce.

Donate to our Summer in a Safe City campaign to help us give more opportunities and chances for former prisoners in New York City to be as successful as Bilal. http://bit.ly/1r3M35i

The John A. Reisenbach Foundation has worked “For a Better and Safer New York” since 1991. Through grants and strategic partnerships, we address systemic problems like unequal access to education and job training that keep individuals vulnerable and that contribute to poverty and crime. We strive every day to support safety, security, and a high quality of life for all New Yorkers.
