JAR is a proud supporter of New York Cares’ Career Preparation and Education programs for individuals reentering the workforce. This program supports individuals who have recently returned home from incarceration. Volunteer-led workshops facilitate the skills and attitudes clients need to attain employment and succeed in their new roles. In doing so, New York Cares combats the risks associated with underemployment and unemployment in the reentry community, which includes recidivism and reincarceration.
Workshops also provide the opportunity for one-on-one and small group social interaction, mentorship, and companionship, emphasizing that everyone is deserving of dignity, hope, and a brighter future.
In 2018, New York Cares served 3,190 adults reentering the community through the following Adult Education workshops: Job Readiness, Resume and Cover Letter Preparation, Mock Interviews, and TASC/HSE Prep.
