JAR is a proud supporter of Safe Horizon’s Streetwork Project; a program that empowers young people experiencing homelessness to work toward long-term safety and stability. Each night in New York City, there are 4,500 unaccompanied homeless youth in need of a safe place to stay.
With support from JAR, Streetwork Project is working to support these homeless young people and put an end to youth homelessness in New York City.
About Streetwork Project:
Streetwork Project has two Drop-In Centers that are youth-centered and trauma-informed spaces to help address all aspects of homelessness. Youth experiencing homelessness can socialize in these safe, non-judgmental places and get access to comprehensive wraparound supports that meet a broad range of their needs and goals.
Streetwork also operates an emergency shelter and has outreach teams who go out to provide basic necessities to homeless communities of teens where they are.
Each year, Streetwork:
- Connects street-involved youth with safety supplies, information, and transportation to safe places through citywide overnight outreach, conducting more than 11,100 contacts
- Empowers 1,100 homeless young people through our Drop-In Centers, which offer safe spaces, daily meals, counseling, and linkages to housing and benefits
- Provides safe housing and resources to 250 young people through our Overnight Shelter
