Hey Reisenbach Friends!

Today is another day in our “Fun in the Sun” Friday Post! It’s an installment of fun activities and volunteer opportunities as a part of our Summer in a Safe City (#NYCSafeSummer) campaign. This week, we have a lot of exciting outdoor movie events and creative volunteer opportunities!

We hope that we are keeping your week packed with plenty of great suggestions. Have anything you think other people may be interested in? Email me with recommendations at chinue.foreman@reisenbachfoundation-2018.mystagingwebsite.com.

Staying in the Shade,

Chinue

Saturday (July 11th):

— Work your inner Picasso by prepping and painting benches and handball courts, spreading woodchips, weeding and other   maintenance tasks! This volunteer opportunity is at Red Hook Recreation Center in Red Hook, Brooklyn at 9:30 AM. Learn more about this event here http://bit.ly/1KVbgFF!

Sunday (July 12th):

— Ever envisioned yourself as a cyclist competing at the Tour de France? Well, here is your (almost) NYC equivalent. This Sunday is the 8th Annual Ride the Tour de Queens. It’s a 20 mile family friendly ride around all the neighborhood in Queens. Want to register or volunteer? Click the link here: http://bit.ly/1Trwtec. (hint: for those that aren’t morning people, the event starts at 8 AM).

— Célébré la fête nationale à NYC!  Celebrate Bastille Day with New York’s ultimate street fair. Between champagne and chocolate tastings, this French culture event can’t possibly get any better! (hint: it does!). Click the link here for more info: http://www.bastilledayny.com/.

— This is the first ever NYC Disability Pride Parade! Disability Pride NYC wants the “goal of this parade to reinforce Pride amongst the disability community and to change public perception of people with disabilities”. Learn more about participating or volunteering in the parade by clicking here: http://disabilitypridenyc.com/.

— Want to go to a culture Sunday summer event? Still pretending you’re into Jazz for that special someone? Come to another one of MoMA’s Sumemrgarden events where they celebrate New York City jazz. The concert starts at 8 PM! Click here for more information: http://bit.ly/1TmGrfV.

Monday (July 13th):

— “We’re descending toward Hill Valley, California, at 4:29 PM, on Wednesday, October 21st 2015.” Since it’s not October 21st just yet, but we can still pretend we’ve time traveled to the future with our favorites, Doc and Marty McFly, in Back to the Future II. Enjoy another NYCParks sponsored outdoor beach screening at Rockaway Beach from 8 – 10:30 PM. Click here for more info: http://on.nyc.gov/1JQu0Yl.

— Nothing is better than a Wes Anderson movie–except when it is on the beach! Join others in Coney Island for a screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel at 8:30 PM. For more info: http://on.nyc.gov/1Cq2nlU.

Tuesday (July 14th):

— Watch a screening of the 80s classic animated movie All Dogs go to Heaven with NYCParks. Another animated tearjerker my younger self has still have yet to cope with. Click here for more info: http://on.nyc.gov/1NPCXyO.
