New York Cares is the largest volunteer organization in New York City. The Reisenbach Foundation is proud to partner with them to provide “Career Preparation for Formerly Incarcerated Adults.”
Once a person is released from prison, they typically have little or no work experience that can be transferrable to their new life. New York Cares works with these individuals to provide cover letter and resume preparation, job readiness workshops GED/HSE tutoring and mock interviews. This program also offers educational and enrichment programs for children whose parents have been incarcerated.
The effect of the “Career Preparation for Formerly Incarcerated Adults” program can be understood in its results. In conjunction with Fedcap- Montague, Midtown Community Court and Center for Employment Opportunities, New York Cares provided 823 formerly incarcerated clients with mock interviews. Furthermore, 202 individuals took advantage of their Resume and Cover Letter preparation services at two sites. One hundred twenty six clients participated in the job readiness workshops, while 310 clients participated in the GED/HSE Preparation classes.
We are proud to say that New York Cares has served 1,560 formerly incarcerated adults and 350 children within the past year! Please join us in saluting New York Cares, their volunteers, and those they serve. If you would like to learn more about New York Cares, please visit their website: newyorkcares.org.
