Jesse Funtleyder

Jesse Funtleyder graduated summa cum laude with his Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology and Counseling in order to pursue his lifelong passion for helping others as they overcome life's adversities. In all his work, Jesse aims to be a positive, interpersonal support to individuals by offering his compassion and empathy, counsel, resources, and advocacy against oppressive injustices that plague New York City. Jesse is a strong believer in the innate good of humanity and the power of people to change even when facing extraordinary obstacles.

Jesse is proud of his independent research project: The Susceptibility to False Confession Based on Ethnicity and Race. Jesse’s vision is that his project can serve as a milestone toward a more equitable justice system and as a protective resource for individuals who are marginalized and oppressed.

In his most recent role at the Fortune Society, Jesse had many responsibilities, while primarily managing his instructional program - Social Services 101. This program’s goal is to train individuals in evidence-based skills, practices, and techniques to help other New York City citizens by becoming effective personnel in the human services field. Through biopsychosocial support, workforce development, and education, Jesse created a curriculum to guide participants on their journey to serving their communities and improving the lives of others often through reflections on their own lived experiences.

Jesse plans to advance his career goals by obtaining a Ph.D. in Psychology to advocate for at-risk youth, victims of crime and disasters, wrongfully incarcerated individuals, veterans, and ultimately, fulfill the dream of making New York City safer for all of the wonderfully unique people who call it home!
